Does the instrument the song is composed on seem to affect the type of song that becomes the finished composition?

Hi and thanks so much for this question. I'd say yes, definitely. I mostly compose on guitar, but sometimes a melody will come to me a cappella. When I'm not going to my "usual" guitar chords, the melody can develop with a bit more freedom. A super fun thing I've been doing lately is writing tunes on a Turkish lute called a Saz (or Baglama). It's an instrument with a drone and lots of semi-tone options. Hopefully some of those experimental songs will see the light of day soon! :-)
